Parks and Recreation

Riverwalk Park is set on the Charles River and its river walk actually serves as the doorstep to the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation. The museum’s in-depth look at industry displays an important facet of Waltham’s history. To become truly immersed in Waltham history, Museum-goers will also want to make an appointment at the Waltham Museum. The Spingold Theatre Center at Brandeis University, the Bentley College Performing Arts Series, the Hovey Players, and the Reagle Players all offer tremendous entertainment. For lovers of historic American architecture, Waltham boasts three majestic estates all sterling examples of the Commonwealth’s rich heritage. The Lyman Estate is a 30-acre English style estate built in 1783. Stonehurst is a fantastically intricate home designed in the late 1880’s that features breathtaking detail. Gore Estate however, is Waltham’s most brilliant attraction. This 45-acre estate features a gorgeous red brick mansion set on lush green farmland, and was home to former Massachusetts Governor Christopher Gore. The exquisite mansion has often been called the “Monticello of the North.”

Waltham is home to six elementary schools, two middle schools and one senior high school, which make up the Waltham Public School system. There are also six private schools, which also meet a variety of Waltham’s educational needs. Waltham is served by near by Newton-Wellesley hospital in the neighboring town of Newton. The Redline stop at Porter connects the commuter rail to two stops in Waltham, and the MBTA bus also has a connecting to the city.
